Hybrid curing process: Solving the problems of deformation and drying in flexible film printing

The customer is a manufacturer of electronic tags and membrane switches, whose main product categories include PET/PVC membrane switches, anti-counterfeiting labels, and high-end thin film printing products.

On traditional curing production lines, customers face two major technical bottlenecks:

  • Heat Deformation Risk:

Flexible films are extremely sensitive to temperature. Using only high-power mercury lamps can easily cause the film to shrink, curl, or even melt due to excessive infrared heat, resulting in a high scrap rate.

  • Incomplete Curing:

Anti-counterfeiting inks and special functional coatings have complex compositions. While using only low-heat UV LEDs for curing protects the substrate, deep inks (especially those with specific wavelength absorbers) often fail to dry completely, leading to insufficient adhesion or a sticky surface.

Solution: Mercury Lamp + UVLED Hybrid Curing System

To address the client's needs, our company customized an integrated conveyor solution combining "pre-curing with LED pre-curing and post-curing with mercury lamps":

First Stage: UVLED Cold Light Source Pre-curing

Utilizing a 395nm high-energy-density UVLED light source, the ink surface is rapidly "locked in" in a very short time. Since LEDs do not generate infrared heat radiation, this effectively prevents initial heat deformation of the film substrate, ensuring printing accuracy.

Second Stage: Full-Band Mercury Lamp Deep Curing

Following this, a high-pressure mercury lamp leverages its "wide spectrum" advantage. Its rich UV distribution penetrates thick ink layers, thoroughly activating the deep initiators in the anti-counterfeiting ink, ensuring the overall cross-linking density of the coating meets standards.

Application Results
  • Increased Yield:

Film heat deformation rate reduced by over 95%, perfectly adaptable to ultra-thin PVC/PET materials.

  • Curing Efficiency:

Conveyor line speed increased by 30%, resolving the color fading issue caused by incomplete drying of special anti-counterfeiting inks.

  • Energy Consumption Optimization:

Hybrid mode reduces electricity costs by approximately 20% compared to simply using multiple mercury lamps.

Every precision printing requirement necessitates a scientifically sound light source combination solution. As a professional UV curing equipment supplier, we not only provide lamps but also process solutions to enhance production competitiveness.
